New Movies to Look Out for in 2016

By Alexis Sanchez on February 13, 2016

Okay, so this year’s selection of new movies is wide ranging but there is a common theme. They sound so cinematically good! From the flurry of action films to comedy adventure flicks, there’s something for everyone. From the various trailers and media coverage, there are certain movies that have stuck out to me and make me want to spend that two Subway footlongs worth (or maybe catch it on matinee for those people struggling on a college/life budget).

Here’s a list of 4 movies (s0 far) I really really want to see in 2016 that just sound all around enticing (not listed in order of preference):

1. Deadpool

It’s actually out on theaters this weekend and I expect the lines to be ridiculously long. There is just something about the crude humor and his anti-hero persona that just makes me love this guy. I think it’s mostly because it’s so different from the superhero movies the Marvel universe has recently been producing the past couple of years.

Also, Ryan Reynolds stars as Deadpool himself and if you have seen any of his tweets or the many trailers where he dons the tight red suit as if a second skin, he completely embodies the sarcasm and wit that Deadpool is trademarked for.

However, it’s Rated R for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity, so younger audiences should probably wait a couple years to watch (yeah I know, sorry kids).

2. Suicide Squad

This movie is released on August 5th but ever since I heard about it last year, I have just been itching to go! Not only is the concept of an anti-hero team (now it’s an anti-hero battle between the DC and Marvel universes) with a bunch of crazy supervillains sound like a recipe for a fun disaster, but the actors portraying them are some of the best in the game.

There’s Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as Joker, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn (one of my personal favorites) just to name a few. Just from the little I’ve seen in the action packed trailers, it looks like a creepy yet fun ride through Suicide Squad’s misdeeds and unfiltered decisions. I’m so ready!

3. Finding Dory

This one was a long time coming (13 years to be exact)! But this summer on June 17th, we will finally get the payoff we have been waiting through our whole childhoods (if you’re like me and saw this as a child in theaters). Sometimes Disney plays too many games with our emotions (like where is The Incredibles 2, huh?).

Anyway, Finding Nemo was such a lively, cheesy animated kids movie that I know will only be replicated for the sequel. Ellen DeGeneres, who voices Dory in the film series, has been keeping the love for Dory alive through her talk show and it’s only been increasing my excitement for the movie even with just the one short trailer that’s been released for it.

Even if you’re an adult, it’s hard not to fall in love with the cute fishes and follow them on their journey of finding what’s been lost.

4. Zootopia

I cannot wait to proudly watch this movie when it’s released later in spring on March 4th. I know I know, it’s another animated movie for kids but I found the comedy to be quite enjoyable for myself as an adult. This movie is centered around animals in a city called Zootopia, which is a simple enough plot, but just even the day-to-day events brought up in the trailer were hilarious takes on them.

The most iconic part of the trailer is with the sloths at the DMV because it was just something adolescents and adults can certainly relate to when dealing with the hours upon hours of wait time. Also, noteworthy are the well known actors that voice some of the main characters such as Idris Elba and Ginnifer Goodwin, and even the acclaimed singer, Shakira, is voicing a role. There’s too many reasons not to go out and join the younger crowd in this adventure!
